How do I contact you?

Where are you located?

Our office is at the Diocesan Centre, 51 Grey St, Hamilton East. For more information please call 07 949 6530.

Are you a religious organisation?

The Common Good Foundation is based on Catholic values. However, we are here to support anyone in our community; aside from our Parish-based initiative grants, recipients are not funded based on religion.

Donation Questions

Can I apply for a tax credit for donations made to the Common Good Foundation?

Yes, the Common Good Foundation is a registered charity. Individuals can claim 1/3rd of the value of eligible donations over $5, up to their taxable income. To claim donation tax credits, you need to submit your receipts and you have 4 years to do so - from when the receipt is issued by an approved organisation. How do I make a donation? 

You can use our online form to make donation. We take payment via Stripe or via direct bank transfer. View the donate page here 

Online Store Questions

What do you sell? 

We sell candles via our online store. There are two varieties -

  • The Classic Candle by Downlights - Purple Orchid with Natural Patchouli Oil scent 

  • The Classic Candle by Downlights - Vanilla Silk

Can I click and collect? 

Yes, you can! When you select "collect" at the checkout you will receive an email notification when your order is ready for collection.

You will be able to collect your candle from either the Chanel Centre, the Cathedral of the Blessed Virgin Mary, or St Patrick's Church (Taupo). If you have any difficulties please call 07 949 6530.

At the point of collection, you will need to show your name and confirmation of order email

Grants Questions

What services do you offer?

We provide financial grants to organisations and parishes in the Hamilton Catholic Diocese geographical area.

How do I apply for a grant?

Are there any areas/topics/projects that will not be considered a funding priority by the Common Good Foundation? 

Yes. The following is a list of areas that will not be considered by the Grants Committee:

  • Individuals

  • Individual scholarships or development

  • Fixed assets or purchases, capital projects, sports equipment

  • International travel

  • Medical treatment

  • Government agencies, schools, sports organisations, arts organisations

If you are unsure of whether or not your project will be considered, please contact admin@commongood.org.nz for advice. 

What is required by successful applicants after they receive funding?

All successful grant recipients are required to supply a receipt upon transfer of the grant and to submit Accountability Reports. Accountability Reports are due by 31 August of the year after funding; prior to a new grant application being assessed.

How much money is available through grants? 

Most Common Good Foundation Grants are between $1,500 - $10,000.

Are there any other limits on receiving grants from the Common Good Foundation?

Grant recipients may not receive more than three years of consecutive funding. As is the normal request from the Board, in accepting this grant you confirm that should the project not take place within 12 months, the funds will be returned to Common Good Foundation. The grant cannot be used for any purpose other than that which was requested on the application form. 

We distribute on behalf of the Tindall Foundation. An organisation can only receive Tindall Funds once/year.

Do you fund operating expenses? 

To assist your organisation in meeting the needs of your community, we do give grants to cover operating expenses. However, for grants that fall within The Tindall Foundation criteria, it is preferable that these are for expenses other than wages e.g. rent, staff training, telecommunications etc.

How do I know if I am eligible for a grant?
